  3. This guy who is teaching was very informative and I learned a lot from him. One of the things that I learned was that when two oceanic plate tectonics are coming together, one of the plates goes under the other, which goes down towards the magma under the crust. That makes a volcano erupt, which was how Hawaii was formed. My question is: How do scientists know how fast the plate tectonics move if they know how fast your nails grow?

  4. Extra detail in the video, very good. There are three types of plate movements: Convergent, where they push against each other (major cause of earthquakes), Divergent, where they separate, and this sometimes causes one plate to push down the other one. This can also cause a rift, where the ground opens. The third is transform, where they slide against each other (minor cause of earthquakes). Because of all these plate boundaries, this was what could have separated Pangaea, if it existed, into it's different continents. Pangaea was the 'supercontinent' where all the continents were mashed together in one giant landmass. Volcanoes form because during a convergent boundary, the plate that is being pushed down is also being melted, causing volcanoes to form. Question: Is it possible for the continents to reconnect?

  5. I would like to know how Alfred vaguer died and why was it by nature causes or was he murdered?
there are many types of plate movements(three to be exact) the first in transform which is when the plates are moving or grinding on each other such as the san Andrea's fault . the second is convergent is when two continents head but each other or ram in to each other this can cause mountains. The third and final is divergent is when they separate and create newer land forms that will be around longer such as the middle of the Atlantic ocean. (sorry about to go into something we learned in class) I learned that Pangaea was the first land form that many people believe that they were connected together and there is proof that show that the same glacier formations are in south America and Africa and the same for animal bodies. I also learned in the video there are hot spots in the earth or cracks that magma spits up and out of, which created the Hawaiian islands.

  6. I learned that there are 3 kinds of plates movements, transform, convergent, and divergent. There was Pangea first, then Laurasia, and then what we have now, and everything in between. I learned that there are hotspots on the earth that spew out magma and then harden into solid rock. That's was how Hawaii was formed. I wonder if that happened again of we would get another island. I also learned that scientist found proof that there must have been a Pangea because the same kind of animal skeletons found in South America as in Africa, so they must have been connected at some point.

  7. Sorry I did it again! I didn't put my initials!!! The comment posted on October 30 at 10:35pm belongs to JMJ. Also, my question was if America was split in half by the plates, would there need to be an East and West USA? JMJ

  8. This guy did a very great job explaining the movement of plates. He said that they move as fast as your finger nails grow. and it is very interesting how pongeae works, way back when all the continents were joined, it was just one big land structure joined. The dinosaurs could just walk from south america to Africa. i learned a lot in this video. I learned that there are continental plates and oceanic plates. the oceanic plates slide under the continental plates, it builds up a tight force on the continental plate that can give way right when there is too much weight. It snaps like a twig and sling shots the continental plate and releases the land out into the water. That is whats predicted to happen to California. i also learned how to track where the fault lines are. all around the world when a volcano irrupts, or there is an earth quake, thats wear there is a fault line. And underneath that is a boiling stream of hot magma. also i learned that a rift accord when two continental plates pull apart. and when two oceanic plates move apart the atlantic ocean gets bigger. i liked this video it was really explanatory. by Linnea.

  9. I watched the video again before 4 on Saturday. I understand that there are 3 types of plate movement, and when these plates move volcanos, earthquakes, rifts, and mountains are made. what would happen if scientists found a way to cool the core, would the plates stop moving. I also played the quiz games.

  10. I like how the video wasn't boring. So there are three types of plate movement (divergent, transform, and convergent), and they move as fast as your finger nails grow. Pangaea is when all the continents were in one piece. Earthquakes are formed when two plates smash against each other, crush, and get bigger. My question is, one day, will all the continents smash together again? JJP
