The video was great I found it purity cool how they presented the video. I found it cool how they can pull the glowing genes from deep see bacteria and fire flies to make glowing plant.

The interviewer is saying what people think of their products, and it turns out that many people don’t like the idea. The producers continue to defend themselves, and I would too. If this were to succeed, then just think of all the things it could apply to. Glow in the dark golf, laser tag, lighting roads and hiking trails, and maybe some other things. The interviewer wonders if these glowing plants will cause problems like sleeping or hurting your eyes. In defense, the producers say that the plant’s glow will only be as bright as glow paint. This should be produced, and if possible, used in public.

I agree with Alex, maybe if the biohackers do win this argument about using glow in the dark plants for light instead of other normal lights we can use then for fun games. But just as Alex said it would probably damage our eyes. A.P.H.

I think it would be pretty cool if we started using trees to light our streets instead of street lights. It would save us a lot of energy. Its pretty cool how the three biohackers from the California Do-It-Yourself biology lab came up with that idea. When he showed a seen from Avatar of when the main character was walking around in the blue peoples world, they showed how the he was walking around in the forest that was lighted up by plants trees and different animals, I wondered if that was one of the places that gave them an idea to have plants light up our world too. The video and the article gave me a lot of interesting information on this topic, I had never thought maybe plants could be used to light our world. But the only thing that I don't like about this project is the biohazards. I wish we could come up with something that works were we don't have to worry about anything bad happening. If they use a lot of plants and trees for this project it better work out if it does not work out than there is going to be a enormous problem it might effect other plants and trees. It was cool how they interviewed the creators bout this and asked them what they thought about it. I liked it it was interesting, maybe we can start to use glow in the dark plants as car lights too. ReplyDeleteI wonder as well if Avatar influenced them to think of the glowing plant project... This is a very interesting topic to learn about, but hazards could come up anytime during this experiment. I completely agree with you about being cautious with our environment's trees and plants. :)

The glowing plant project is about using plants to light the streets or cities or anything you can light up instead of using electricity (or light bulbs.) Scientists think that this will benefit America by using natural resources to light the world up. This was inspired by fireflies and/or other animals and insects that glow in the dark. It all started with three biohackers from a California Do-It-Yourself biology lab, when they posted a Kickstarter campaign to crowdsource their plan to bioengineer a glowing plant. Antony, Kyle, and Omri promised to distribute genetically modified seeds to supporters, and they got $484,013 from backers.
ReplyDeleteThe scientists first collect the glowing genes from bacteria or fireflies. Then they re-trigger the genes so that the plant reads what those genes are. They order the genes online and then FedEx ships it to them. Then the scientists put the genes in the agrobacteria. Last they then use to agrobacteria to transform the plants.
I think that this idea is absolutely phenomenal, because we wouldn't have to use electricity to produce light. If this does work out, we could start using these glowing plants in our homes so much that we wouldn't have to pay electricity bills! This reminds me a lot of Avatar (as shown in the video) and it looks so cool, and just imagine if that was what our world looked like. This would save people a lot of money, like no more flashlights, or lamps, or even street lights! This topic is important because it could save money for poor people if they didn't have homes, cars, or money. They could just use these glowing plants for light sources.

I totally agree with the not having to pay electrical bills, but don't you think you would have to pay for the plants too? It would probably be really expensive at first, but I think it would be worth it because it would help slow down global warming. How would we power our phones and iPads and stuff though? Would we still use electricity? JMJ
DeleteThe article and the video were about some DIY scientists who figured out how to make plants grow. They thought that in the future, they would be able to do more with it to replace electricity, so they sold glow plant seeds to people to raise money to conduct experiments. They raised almost $500,000 dollars, and they were only hoping for $65,000!
ReplyDeleteI think the idea is really cool! I don't think it could be a harm to the environment, and if it is, it couldn't be as bad as electricity is on the environment, so I don't know why the KickStoppers were making such a big deal about it being bad on the environment. JMJ

Deletein this video and article I found out that scientist are figuring out how to make plants grow. I think that this could resolve a lot of problems in the environment. think of this we could get rid of street lamps, and if the power went out then maybe the glowing plants in your neighborhood, it could those little kids that are afraid of the dark.

The idea was actually inspired by the glowing of fireflies. The experiment will test if the plant project is safe. If the experiment doesn't fail, then it could come in very helpful to our society. It could light up roads and pathways while saving money and energy. Biohackers Antony Evans, Kyle Taylor and Omri Amirav-Drory from the California DIY Lab came up with this idea of using plants as lights. In hope of $65,000, they sold glowing plant seeds. They ended up earning up to $500,000!

The thought of trees being a light source, is a quite fascinating idea. but i also think that trying to make plants glow, can require a lot of chemicals, and chemicals are bad for plants. Therefor, this experiments could harm more plants than it is meant to light up. Trying to change the genetic material of a plant can be an epic fail, but i still like science showing progress in bringing up something creative.

this glowing plant is really cool I would like to buy one but I do not have the money it seems pretty legit. people could save loads of money if you think about it because you would not need lights in your house any more you could use this glowing plant it is probably expensive but you could save loads of money in the long run
