The reason I think science is involved in this is because they are all blind, yet they can tell from their memory which part of the elephant they are touching. For example, the second blind man used his memory to compare the elephants tusk was like a spear, and the sixth man thought the tail was a rope. Science is all about observing which is what the blind men are doing in this poem. In the second paragraph, the man used his observing skills to determine that the elephant was a solid object. There are many different ways to study the same object or ideas or theories. This poem exemplifies the different ways to observe the same object (the elephant). I believe the similarity to science is in the perspectives. Each person had part of the whole. Therefore they were unable to "see" the entire elephant. Each had their own perspective on what an elephant is.
While we know that an elephant is very much different than all the things they list it as, being unable to see a different perspective has impaired their ability to see the elephant. In science, you must be able to look at something from many different perspectives in order to see all what is actually happening.
I think the same way we use our senses to form an educated guess is the same thing these blind men are doing only they don't have one of their senses so they can only slightly tell what is happening.
I think what the poem is trying to say is you don't need sight to figure out what something is. You can use other senses like scent hearing touch taste. Like if some one gives you a plat of food, but you can't see it you could probably guess what it is just by tasting it.

I think the poem is trying to tell you that you can figure stuff out without using sight you can use other senses like scent, touch, taste, and smell . like if some one gave you a plate of food, but you couldn't see it you could probably figure it out just by using taste.
All the men were blind so they had theories of what the elephant looked like, just from using one of their senses, touch. Humans have five senses, touch, taste, hearing, seeing, and smelling, but because these men had only four senses they used the sense, touch. Each man touch different parts of the elephants body so of course they all had different theories of what the elephant looked like. I think this poem was saying that when you don't have the sense of seeing something and you're trying to figure it out, each person will have a different perspective of what the object is.
This poem connects with science in the way that in both, observation plays a huge part. In science, you need all of your senses so you can get the correct results. If you only use your smell you can get something totally different than when using your sight, or you could miss something vital. The blind men were not able to understand what an elephant looked like as a whole, just like if not using full observation skills in an experiment, you could miss the big picture/results. -ORW
I think this poem is saying that you don't just need sight to observe things, there's smell, taste, and texture (feel) which in this case the blind men used to determine the elephant. You need to use all of these senses to find the big picture of what this little experiment is showing you. J.H
This poem relates to science in many ways. One of the most obvious things that is related to science is the fact that the blind men are using their sense of touch to describe the elephant. They all go up to the elephant one at a time to feel the elephant. When they touched the elephant they tried to guess what it was part of like part rope or wall. MKV
Science is used all the time and there's a lot of science being used in this poem. The blind men are both using one of their 5 senses. Thier using the touch sense. Another way they are using science is how they're brain is trying to figure out what the hand is feeling.
This relates to science because they have never seen an elephant so whatever part of the elephant they touched is what they thought the animal was be it a spear rope or fan. They used their observational skills and their sense of touch to try and tell what it was. They all made hypotheses's and used neurons in their brains to attempt to complete their mental image of the animal.
In the poem the blind men touched the elephant and deciphered what different parts felt like. One man said the trunk felt like a snake. Another man said the elephant was like a wall. In this poem the men used the sense of touch. It shows how important the sense of touch is and that is may not always be accurate.
In this the poem the men have never seen an elephant before, because of there blindness and are trying to decipher what the elephant is like by using there five senses. Your senses relate to science in a very important way. Each had his on opinion what what the elephant was like, based on what there senses told them. They tried to picture the elephant in there, minds based on feeling and touching the animal which relates to science because your thinking and imagining what it could possibly look like.

I think that if people had blindfolds and could only use their five senses, the outcome would be the same as what the blind men saw.

This relates to science by using the senses touch, smell, and hear. These senses help blind people find their way.

In the poem, each of the men had there own opinions what the elephant was,but the answer comes down to what has facts and is proven.

I OBSERVED THAT THE BLIND PEOPLE ATTEMPTED TO TOUCH AN ELPHANT BUT THEY MISS JUDGES WHERE THE ELEPHANT WAS AND THEY TOUCHED OTHER THINGS INSTEAD.
